Professor Bruce Clarkson
Professor Bruce Clarkson, restoration ecologist and BioHeritage Challenge Ambassador
Based at the University of Waikato, Professor Bruce Clarkson is interested in habitat restoration to bring indigenous nature back into towns and cities.
He leads the People, Cities and Nature programme that is focused on restoring indigenous nature in urban environments and is funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
At Crazy & Ambitious 2, Bruce is MC of the panel: Aotearoa’s unique approach to ecosystem restoration. The panel is part of the Tuesday afternoon session with the same title and sponsored by Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research.

In 2016, Bruce received the Royal Society of New Zealand Charles Fleming medal for environmental achievement. This was in recognition of his efforts to advance and communicate an understanding of conservation efforts in terrestrial, freshwater and urban environments, and support effective on-the-ground restoration practice.
Bruce is a board member of the Australasian chapter of the International Society for Ecological Restoration and is on the Governance Group for the Building Better Homes, Towns and Cities National Science Challenge.
